Metal reflections at 90º

Hi,

I'm trying to render a stainless steel, aluminium dial but simply cannot get the material to look metallic as it's perpendicular to the light source. If I rotate the entire scene including all models, textures and camera it looks better. The problem is the render benchmark for the scene drops from 800ish down to 120-130.

I'm trying to achieve a similar effect to the Apple iCloud logo:

Forgot to mention, it's the part with the two numbered sequences.

A few things...

For that effect you need to have your anisotropic angle map look like this:

That will give you the circular anisotropic look you are looking for. That alone might give you enough lighting information to look good...those circular gradients tend to pick up light from all over!

If not, you should place a light in the background that the metal piece can reflect. Imagine a laser beam coming out from the camera and bouncing off that metal disc. Where ever that laser beam would bounce to is where you would want to place your light so that it can be reflected off the metal back into the camera. Hopefully that helped some.

I would love to see the result of applying that reflection map to the object. If that works can you post the results?.
thanks
