Geometry Capture from Displacement

Is there a way to capture the geometry created when using Displacement?

no.
calculation of displacement happens very differently in maxwell.
as i understand there is technically no way to revert it into xyz object space.

Use Mudbox. I do this all the time to avoid driving up maxwell render time.
You can import model, and apply a displacement map created in photoshop to it..or scuplt within Mudbox...then output high res OBJ.

You can do it in Max too with the displace modifier.

Same in Blender and apply the modifier or bake the maps you need.
