shadow catching material

Hi All,

I have a project where I have to superimpose a building element onto an existing building photograph. I have rendered this scenario with Form-Z's integrated rendering engine in the past but not with Maxwell Render. Form-Z has a shadow catching material. Basically, in Form-Z, I mass out the existing building and overlay the photograph and the objects behind the photo catch the shadows, using a shadow catcher material, but it looks like the shadows are cast on the photograph.

My first inclination would be to set up the existing building as material to only render shadows then use that and add it to the photo in Photoshop using the multiply blending mode. That sound right? Or maybe just us a shdow pass.

How can this be achieved with Maxwell Render?

Any insight would be much appreciated.

Aaron

I'd do it just as you've said there, I reckon. I'd match the render angle to the photo, include any extra "blocks" that you need the shadow to cast onto/take the shape of, then render out the shadow pass and comp in Photoshop. Should do the trick!
