Diamonds Using .IOR & Color

Dear Experts,

I'm trying to render a diamond using IOR settings and am trying to figure out a way to get a blue color without compromising realism. I thought perhaps I could add another layer or BSDF and use a Boron IOR file (but of course i don't see one for the element Boron, which is what gives diamonds their blue color.)

Any way I can create a Boron IOR file myself or learn how? What other alternatives to I have to get the blue color in a diamond while still using the IOR file for diamond?

Thanks for any input!

Rob

I don't know about IOR creation, but I would try adding a bsdf to the layer with a small weight and a blue tinted transparency. You might look up the index of refraction for a diamond too and use it for that second bsdf.

Here is a good thread to get started with for Complex IOR's:

Adding Boron to a diamond ior file will likely not get you the result you are trying to achieve. The Boron impurity in diamonds are definitely one of the reasone that a diamond can have a blue colour however it is at an atomic level (1 Boron atom substituting for 1 Carbon atom).

I doubt that you can just add the Boron ior file in the same way that you can to create metallic alloys.... I could be wrong though. You will likely have more success if you create an mxm using dispersion, refractive index and abbe values for diamond.
