How do I generate an HDR using my physical sky settings?

Hello there,
this is some sort of a beginner question: I want to replace my physical sky by IBL.
Therefore I want to render the sky and save it as an HDR (.mxi).
Are these the right steps:
1. Open Studio
2. Generate camera
Question: what are the camera settings for generating an HDR? size, ratio, resolution, aperture, where to look at etc.?
3. Render
Question: what are the correct render settings?
4. Save image as mxi
Thanks for help

You can do this directly from the Environment Physical sky options dialogue.
Add a camera, set your sky as required, time of day etc. Then click the 'Save' button just below the Environment type button and choose HDR. Set the resolution you require & save the file.
Load this saved hdr into the IBL slots you want to use.

Hey, thank you very much, that's great. Sorry, I didn't find out myself.
Do the camera settings matter? Or don't they make any difference?
Best regards

Somewhere around here JD said to use EV15
http://www.maxwellrender.com/forum/view ... 06#p336706 is that still in effect in the new version?
Best,
Jason.

Not sure mate. I did a quick test of a camera at sh 500 fstop 8 EV 14.966 & one at sh 120 fstop 2 & EV 8.907. Overlaid the two in photoshop with difference and nothing showed up.
Perhaps it's still neccesary though and wouldn't hurt to use EV 15.

i made some quick tests too...
using maya2011 and it works well with compute `sun from geographical location`,
but NOT with `sun track object`!
the sky gradient looks correct, but the sun itself is at a wrong position - (pinned to this positon on the right side!)
weird?!

I didn't notice the spot -- I'll take a look when I get to the studio... but I don't use Maya and it may be a maya only issue.
Best,
Jason.

Studio exports the HDR correctly so I would say this is probably a Maya plugin issue.

Jason.

thx for testing HalfLife!
how did you setup `SUN TRACK OBJECT` in MXStudio?
i thought the only possibilty in MXStudio is geographical location/date/time?

Since I don't use Maya, I only have a foggy notion of what that might be -- I was just testing to make sure there were no phantom suns floating about in the HDR rendering process.
I suspect either that function of Maya is not supported or buggy, but that is beyond my ability to comment on -- other than to say Studio is rendering these properly so the issue is definitely elsewhere.
Interestingly this technique may be useful to render a faux moon effect...
Best,
Jason.
