HI Everyone,
My laptop CPU overheat and shut off when being rendering, I do have external fan coolant underneath my laptop, but it doesn't help. Is there anyway I can reduce Maxwell stress out my CPU?
Thanks!
Tony

You can set the number of threads Maxwell is using. By default it is set to Automatic which uses all threads. You could try switching it to only use a certain number of your CPU threads, which I suspect would cool it off a bit.

Hi Bordie,
Where can I do this setting? Is it I can adjust from option/material defaults/preview theards ( Maxwell default is set @ 0 ) and My CPU is Core 2 Quart Q2000 @ 2GHz.
Should I set thread #2,3??
Thanks!
Tony

you can also:
> start a render
> open windows task manager
> go to processes
> find maxwell.exe (the one with 100% cpu)
> rightclick on the process > last item in menu: > set affinity
there you can take away cpu cores from the process.

I'm not sure what that processor is. I assume it's got 4 cores? You'll want to use as many cores as you can especially with only a 2ghz speed. So yeah, I'd start with 3 and see if it works before going down further.
I'm not sure which plugin you're using so I can't tell you where to find it there, but in Maxwell Studio if you go to your Render Options tab at the time you've got Time, Sampling Level, Multilight, then CPU Threads (which should say Automatic). Just change it from Automatic to 3.

Hi Brodie,
I use Maxwwell plugin for Rhino, Actually I find the setting in Maxwell render for this setting as well. I need to stop the render for adjustment and resume the render again. From Task manager I can see CPU drop from 98% to 75%.
Thanks!

You do not need to stop the render -- in Maxwell for Rhino, you will find the setting at Scene Manager > Output > Engine > Threads.
