Scaling and tiling downloaded material

Hi everyone and thank you for your help so far. Your patience is much appreciated.

We have been downloading all kinds of fabrics and carpets from the Resources website and noticed that they have a note that says Tileable: Yes and Represented escale: 5mm. Wondering how to use it. When you apply an mxm file to an object, how do you get it to tile and how do you control its scale?

Do you have to accept the scale the original designer conceived or can you deviate from it? (I imagine the answer is yes, but how??)

Thank you.

Anything to do with scale has to do with the mapping of images using UV's -- to change the scale you can change the material mapping properties... here's a few videos:

Any concept of scale is going to be dependent on having "normalized" or "realscale" UV's -- meaning a UV scale of 1m.

How to change the UV's in Rhino is a question you will have to consult the Rhino Manual for but in Studio you can set the UV's very easily using Object Parameters>UV Sets.

Best,
Jason.
