Hello everyone,

I have been reading the manual where we are talking about materials and emitters and all of a sudden they are talking about textures -- without explaining what textures are. Specifically, on p. 58 there is a description of the "Texture Picker". Can anyone explain textures to me as they relate to Maxwell?

I am really trying to understand this program so we can start using it.

Thank you.

Simply put, textures are the images we use when creating materials... For example how will you make a brick material?Using a photo of a brick wall...
It seems a little strange that you want to deal with Maxwell and don't know the word textures which is one of the most known words in 3d... You will need to know the meaning of words like textures, diffuse map, reflection, refraction, displacement map, bump and normal bump etc... so I suggest you use google or wiki.

Good morning JTB,
I am new to 3d modeling. I have been working in Rhino for a few months and have mastered the basics. Just started Maxwell this week. Very exciting program.

Thank you for your explanation. It really helps.

btw: I noticed you are based in Athens. I am also Greek (Cosmas Demetriou). Live in the U.S. and work as an architect/ set designer. Appreciate your help.

Mate if you are just starting out in 3D and trying to get a hang of the basics and get up and running quickly I'd suggest trying Google SketchUp 3D! For your use in architecture and set design it is perfect (sure has some limitations) though these I'm sure will improve by the time you start to challange it from where you obviously are now!

As a set designer the beauty is the speed in which you work thinking on the run! Plus direct link use of Googles 3D Warehouse and the film and stage entourage you'll find LOTS of 3D content for roughing out your stuff!!!

The SketchUp > Maxwell plugin is also a joy!

You wont look back!
