Looks normal to me....white in the alpha means fully opaque, black/grey means objects that have transparency.

I wonder if he's talking about the preview which seems to show a white background rather than a black background?

Yep Brodie , thats exactly it....
In the preview the black/grey parts should be white/grey surely....this is where the background image will show through the windows
indicated in the non-alpha preview above.

Black in alpha means objects that are fully opaque , white/grey means objects that have transparancy , No ?
So this alpha needs to be inverted in photoshop prior to use ?
That doesnt seem correct at all.....has this changed ?
If not , the generated alpha does not provide a 'fringe-less' result when compositing even after inverting the alpha

The windows of the car are transparent, and the alpha is grey, almost black. Same as in your first render no?
