I wanted to ask about and keep track of issues related to keeping render times down across an animation.

If anyone has additions or corrections, please add.

Motion blur -

Render times seem proportional to shutter speed. In general, the longer the shutter is open, the longer the frame.

If motion blur is on, and the shutter speed is X (lets say 1/48th of a frame -- 180 degree shutter) then frames containing slow-moving or still objects don't render much faster than frames with fast moving objects. Maxwell doesn't know the difference in advance, and the full time duration still has to be randomly sampled.

yes?

Things I'm looking at to see if they affect speed -

Making objects invisible to camera

Adding channels / passes
