Computer hangs on export form Maya

This is probably best posted in the Maya section, but I'm having a bit of a probnlem. I can no longer render a certain scene from Maya.
If I try to export a Maxwell scene file the progress bar goes enthusiastically across 80% of the distance, then freezes.
64 bit 16 gig 8 core mac
