I am wondering if anyone is having any problems getting 2.0.3 to work....

I had 2.0.2 working fine and then suddenly had BIG problems with the upgrade

Basically, I have not been able to use Maxwell Studio or any plugin that trys to write MXS files

I am running XP 64 on a Boxx X5365 (Xeon 8 core)

Graphics card is an ATi FireGL 7350 (1g gpu memory)

After new install (which I did both as a patch, and when that didn't work, a clean install), MXS would refuse to open. Would usually crash just as it was "Loading Layout"

I checked Environmental Vars and all is pointing correctly.

I turned the graphics card hardware accelerator down to a minimum. MXS now works, but no texture views possible in the viewport. Also, strangely, when I render materials in the preview, they frequently come out black, ie no texture info or even color info

I have had some discussions with Maxwell Support staff, but so far (after about a week of interactions) nobody can come up with a solution. Weirdly as well, when I try to downgrade to a previous version, I get the same problem.

I wanted to open this up to the forum to see if anyone has any advice. I have searched info on ATi FireGL problems but didn't manage to find a fix

Have you changed anything in the settings of the graphics card or updated the drivers recently. Maybe try and roll back to previous card drivers....

It really sounds like an installation issue to me. Did you try to completely remove everything Maxwell-related and then reinstall? After you uninstall it, run a program called Ccleaner. Then try a reinstall. Also, have you noticed any other problems with your ATI card in other programs? I hope you figure this out, that's frustrating!

it pretty clearly is something to do with the graphics card driver

i will try a rollback and ccleaner as well

In the end, nothing I could do with the ATi card worked

I very carefully removed the Maxwell, used ccleaner, reinstalled my graphics drivers, ertc.

Still had the same problems

Went to the store. Bought an NVidia GeForce 9800 GT. Installed. Updated the drivers. Ran Maxwell.

Everything works fine

My personal is that there is something seriously wrong with the ATi FireGL 7350 card and Maxwell. I did everything that anyone could possibly think of to make them work together, and they didn't (at least on my system, which is a pretty high end spec).

Anyone need a very lightly used ATi FireGL 7350. I'll sell it cheap

I seem to have the same problem, but the other way round. I had 2.0.3 working fine on x32 bit and on x64 bit.
Unfortunately, due to the issue with multi-sub materials (per face material assignments) in 3dsMax combined with
proxy objects/instant clones I had to downgrade to version 2.0.2 which works fine on my x64 bit machines but any
application on the x32 bit machine apart from the material editor crashes before even opening. Has anyone similar
problems and an idea how to fix it? Is it worth trying a re-install?

I think you should uninstall and reinstall 2.0.2 in that case.

@ Mihai: I have done as you said, reinstalled it twice and swept it clean inbetween. Now it's just Maxwell Studio 2.0.2 not
working under x32 bit, all the other apps are working fine. I remember that Studio 2.0.3 worked under x32 bit when I had it
installed a couple of days ago.

Also, I haven't installed any new graphics card driver (ATI FIRE GL V7350 DUAL 1GB), in fact the configuration of the machine
is exactly the same since months. As I had to roll back to version 2.0.2 I'm left with a mess to be honest. Any advise on how
to proceed and get this fixed? Maybe it's a directX issue?

I had a lot of issues with my ATI Fire graphics card as well .. I didn't have issues with Maxwell but it caused me a lot of grief with Rhino. I can't remember how I got is sorted but I won't be a repeat customer. Hope you get it sorted!

They have just updated ATI drivers recently. FYI.

Thanks for your replies guys. I just checked the AMD/ATI website but unfortunately there's no update for my card.
Looks like it will have to go...
