How Do I get high quality WATER / GRASS?

Hello,

Been struggling with this for a long time. How do i get high quality water and grass without instancing many many meshes etc?

Can i just get it from 1 plane? I tried using most of the mxm files located on maxwell website and nothing is turning out too well.

Any recommendations would be great!

In general, water/grass looks FLAT and fake without much depth.

There are many nice examples for water...
For grass, I can't say I've found a nice solution with displacement.... I use MAX and forestpack and clipmaps so not too many polys.

Hey JTB which water is goood? BAsically i need it for a lake/ocean.

Also, is displacement necessary for good water?

Search for pool water topics... Tom has 1-2 nice mats...
I guess displacement would be very time consuming for a lake. Work with noise modifiers or similar... I don't have any experience with water, other than small pools...
