Reflection Layer

Sorry... bit of a mind-block having not done this for a while.
Is it possible to render out a reflection on it's own layer (this is a product render)? Not a shadow.. just reflection.
Or is it best to render the product and make the reflection in Photoshop?

In Render Options>Channels you can set it from Diffuse + reflections to Reflections and you'll just get reflections rendered which you can later composite in PS using screen blending mode.

If you are working with Max, you can also uncheck Visible to camera in the object properties. It still renders the reflection but not the object.

Is screening the reflections an approximation to what Maxwell does, or exactly what it does?
Has anyone compared?
