Weird pattern

Hi all,

I have an issue with my render, i have tried uninstalling and reinstalled the softwares, even changing the textures and scenes. Another step i did was to change the rendering size, and they responded differently with the weird patterns appearing somewhere else! In the end, i changed the computer! and yes it solved the problem. So my question is, why Maxwell responded to different machine?

The computer that i have problem with is
- Quad core Intel Xeon 2.93GHz
- Dual 512Mb nVidai Quadro FX580
- 24GB 1333MHz Ram

And the computer that has no error is
- Quad core Intel Xeon 2.5GHz
- 768Mb nVidia Quadro FX4600
- 16GB 667MHz Ram

Anyone experienced this before?

Im a Lightwave User, Both systems run on Windows XP 64bits. Using Maxwell 2.01

Some patterns were very obvious and is circular shape. This current one is in parallel bars (is clearer if you see it at a distance)

have you ever let it render for a longer time to have the effect more visible or disappear?

oh yes.. that was just a test to see if the pattern still exists on that spot. i have one rendered overnight... all smooth and clean only the part that has weird patterns appear even more clearer.. but i accidentally deleted it so i cant show you.

Is it not a dimmed reflection on the ground?

It would be good if you can let one render overnight again. It's common to see patterns in the noise at low S.L. I can't really comment until I see a high S.L. version.

Sure will do a render soon so we have a better image to discuss about.

Anyway i tested on another machine, is fine too. The specs are
- 2.53GHz
- Dual 512Mb nVidia Quadro FX580
- 12GB Ram

I'm interested to see what comes out of this...I've been noticing some patterning in my renders with 2.0 as well. Mine are usually grid shaped though, not circular.

Sorry to keep you guys waiting... finally have the chance to do an overnight render. Here is the result, now instead of circular, is in grid squarish repeated patterns. Now the wierd thing is, im using the computer that all the while not giving me problem. Again, this is still not as serious as the one earlier which i deleted accidentally.. but i think this is good enough to show what i meant.

what type of lighting are you using? maybe image based?

Hi Polynurb, im not using image (HDR) as lighting. Is lid up using normal plane (4 points polygon) with emitter.

Hi itsallgoode9, care to tell us your experience as well?

The pattern appeared from left all the way to the right, a bar. Sometimes in a single render there are 2 bars with a wide gap between them.

well patters are not new in maxwell, and i have seen them in previous versions, but in 99% of the cases you will only see them early in the render/ at low SL.

My last project i used big HDRs and i couldn't be asked to scale them down (they worked fine before)... threr was a pattern at low SL in the Render channel, which disappeared.
Interestingly it stayed in the Z-Channel i rendered out. it was very obvious, and i thought it might have been to using large hdr for illumination.

I am on laptop now, ... far away from my desk and files and work :D

i'll post it once i get back.

that's exactlly what I have run into on a couple random occasions...it seems to show up on flat surfaces and will never clear

it is not bug it must be a feature !

but seriously - mayby this phenomenon appears because of some error in hdr file ?
