interpolation ? environment settings

I am looking for the effects of interpolation for the environment settings. I seem to overread the manual on this subject.
Does anyone know what the effect of interpolation is when switch on or off ?. I suppose it mixes physical sky with hdri.

It is texture filtering for the IBL maps.
