Double sided emitters?

Is there a way to make a double sided emitter out of a single sided surface?

did you try to clone the emitter object, then flip the surface in studio (object parameters/appearance tab -> flip)?

Hmm no I didn't try that, but I did import an object with a clone that had opposite faces and it didn't like it at all. a mish mash of black faces and glowing ones.

you need just to add a very tiny distance between the two polys, then you'll have no issues. overlapping reversed polygons are a 'no-go' on any render engine i know
-> make sure the polys are sitting back to back. you can set studio to show polygon normals to control that.

that is what I'm ending up doing in my modeler, the shape doesn't lend it's self to just -99.995% scale or something. (i'm working on my cold cathode lamp render idea, in a different thread.)
I tried to make it have a thin SSS for the phosphor surface and that almost worked, but I didn't seem to get it to be bright enough on the opposite side. (I'm only just scratched the surface on how to use SSS of any kind though)
maybe I'll add a wish list item for a check box to just have maxwell make an emitter use both sides of a double sided poly mesh.
