thinSSS leaf in library makes problems

my first tests on maxwell v2. (demo) ended in some crashes while rendering and testing the new thinSSS.
i think something is wrong with the thinSSS leaf in the library. testing with it and rerendering the preview in the matEditor leads to crashes.
i get also crashes on the rendering when this (edited) material is used.
i edited only numbers - no maps or the like. (and actually only the roughness value)
and i think something is wrong with the setup of the material.
because the roughness value of the base mat is only 1 which would asume a totally clean surface. is this correct ?
the result is it is looking good when a lightsource is behind the leaf - but when the sun shines on it, it is almost black.
rising the number to 99 which i think should be the case, gives me back a green leaf, but when rendered with a light source behind it is almost white.
can any of the testers confirm this?
PS: this is on win XP64 and with the use of the cinema plugin.
the material is actually loaded inside cinema and edited there.

Have a look in the bug section. solution is: you need to lower the roughness in the 2nd bsdf from 1 to 0.

thanks for the info.
but the other problems remain.
when rendering this not backlit it renders almost black (at least way too dark for a leave). you can see this easily in the mat editor when you change the preview scene.

Please try it in a real scene, not the other preview scenes, they depend a lot on the size of the preview objects, mapping etc.

yes, i have tried in a normal scene in the first place.
after i noticed the leaves are way too dark i started playing with the mat editor.
i will provide some images soon.

I had a similar issue. I changed out the maps but left all the settings the same as the thinSSS leaf. It shut down MR every time within 1-5 seconds. When I tried to do a preview render in Studio using a preview other than the leaf preview it shut down studio. After following the advice above and changing roughness from 1 to 0 it fixed it all. Surprised that didn't get caught in beta?
I'm running on Windows Vista

here are examples of the leaves rendered without any backlight.
the leaves are way too dark. as you see from the sky the scene is well lit. (sun+sky) (the groundplane is quite dark because of a dark material.)
leaves
tree

Not all tree leaves are created equal.
I think that far away shot looks excellent. Looks like a pecan tree.

o.k. it might look nice.
but i am not able so far to get nice fresh green looking leaves with thinSSS.
And if you look at the example preview (from the library which is used here) it looks very different from the look you get in a normal scene. so i think the materials are optimized for being backlit, but don´t work well under normal light.
i have made some progress. but they only look good when lit from behind. but in the scene above, they render pretty dark.
when i look outside my window i see lots of green. and all the leaves are way brighter and have a fresh saturated green.

new example
the first image is without SSS
the sacond with thinSSS. as you can see the part where the sun shines through is not lit in the thinSSS version. i think it should be.
this is the problem i get with all version i have tried so far. the are not properly lit by the sun from the front.
i still think something is wrong with the thinSSS. or at least i don´t get it to work properly.

here are images what i would like the leaves to look like.
forget about the green color tone. it is the saturation and the lighting i want to show.
also notice how the leaves are correctly lit by the sun in the close up.
(NOT RENDERED IN MAXWELL !!)

Tweak the material settings how you like. It
can be done. Then upload it to the gallery.

Maybe if it's better, NL will include it in the next update.

???
bubbaloo, do you read the posts actually? this render was not maxwell and i don´t get it working in maxwekk. i also think that there is something wrong with the thinSSS, which looks good when lit behind, but has weired results from the front.

Yes, sir I read your post.

I'm saying that the result you want is completely possible in Maxwell. Do it! I'd do it, but I'm really busy creating a Pharmacy sign to render. Ooh fun...
