Hi, I've tested maxwell 2.0 for interior scene with a small windows only.

I wan to know how can I reduce noise in this image.

I used multilight(intensity).

Image

Physical sky + sun only enabled

Image

All other emitter enabled except sun+sky

As you can see, there is only one small windows opened.

Rendered time is 6h 20m and SL is 16.3.

I've tired several times and found that I can't reduce noise with this setup even though sl raise 20.

That is the only way? :?

Here is another tests.

Below images are the same rendered image with multilight

Image
1. Emitter only ( I've put the plane emitter at the opened place )

Image
2. Physical sky & Sun only

Image
3. Emitter + Phy.sky & Sun

As you already know, the emitter makes less noisy scene.

But the problem is that how can I make sharp sunlight shadow with emitters.

actually the emitter you used does a good job to simulate the phys sky.
for the sharp shadows: in your example of the phys sky + sun, you don“t see the sun as it does not shine into the opening, so no sharp shadows.
if you want a sun a small disc might do the job.

Could you try with an IBL sky with a pretty sharp sun disk so you get sharper shadows?

OK, I'll try it.

I've tried again with HDRI, but not so different.

2hours render with multilight

Image
Emitter only - not bad

Image
HDRI environment only - OMG

Image
Emitter + HDRI - noisy

25% scale down HDRI preview
Image

It's just 2hours render, but you can expect that more rendertime cannot make clear.

Any environment light through a small hole in a closed box with the camera inside, has always required heavy render times. I suggest using an emitter outside of your window and turn environment lighting off. You can use an emitter a bit larger in size than the window just outside for diffuse lighting. Also, do you have any glass that the light has to pass through? Use AGS or hide the glass panel.

There is no glass panel.

I'm satisfied with the result of emitter lighting but I wish I can make a sharp sunlight.

I should try some more test.

Btw, that HDRI-only one is a moon-sky :)
One Q: Do you have a large ground plane outside?

No. there are no ground plane. it needs?

Imagine, when you don't have a ground plane, the light coming from atmosphere and sun don't have a chance to bounce from the ground and fill inside the room indirectly. I don't think it will magically change everything but I'm sure the difference will be remarkable. ;)

Try it also with a 'normal' hdr map :P The one you used there is really to test the speed...I wonder in other renderers how they would cope with such a map, especially for an interior. Try a sky hdr with, a clear sky one. You should get pretty sharp shadows from it.

skydome seems to give best results in shorter time for such a scenario..... did you try that? doesn't seem like you would sacrifice too much by doing so.

I've tried again with earth plane (about 120m x 170m)

Rendertime is the same : 30min with physical sky & sun only

Image
with plane (sl : 17.71)

Image
without plane (sl : 17.75)

I think there is not so much difference. :(

rusteberg, skydome is not my concern because I need a sunshine and sun shadow. :)
