Your opinions regarding Benchwell & V2

As you heard, V2 and prior versions can't be compared in regards to SL/Benchmark. I'm thinking we could use the opportunity and create a new scene, specifically for V2, but i'd like your input.

1. How do you like the idea of a scene contest. Everyone's allowed to participate, and the community picks the winner. I think you can do better than me ;)
2. Should we reduce the resolution below Demo threshold, or rather take a common real world size like 1080p, thereby excluding non license-holders as is the case now?

A few things to keep in mind:
  • Even though my host provides me with plenty traffic, the scene should be light (10-20MB?) to assure everyone a reasonably quick download. This does not mean i can't be calculation intensive through SSS, dispersion, Mblur, etc.
  • Your texture libraries' copyright might prohibit distributing the originals.
  • Max will be the first to post his contest entry, no matter how hard you try.
So if you have ideas and criticism, let your voice be heard while the choices are there.

Thanks!

Haha, brilliant. Well, I think it is a very good Idea. It would be great to see some diversity in the scene, such as some SSS, some displacement, a bit of everything I guess..

Sounds like a good idea. I do have one request that it be something that takes longer to render than the current scene. Should prove for more accurate results going forward as comps get more cores.

LOL Adrian, thanks for the funny comment :D just because of that i'm not gonna contribute with anything to this. You guys should create such a scene, not me. :)

Sounds like a good idea. I'd suggest keeping the resolution below demo limits though. Seems like something people might want to know when demoing the product, whether or not their computer is fast enough to run Maxwell in a reasonable amount of time. Having the benchwell list to compare how their computer rates could be helpful in that. It would also probably give the benchwell list more length if it weren't limited to paying customers. That would help the rest of us out too since I'd like to rate my computer against as many as possible to see where I'm at and what improvements might be the most beneficial.

I have to agree
about 4 times longer seems right.
and I'll also vote to use the demo size

An animated emitter behind a displaced SSS in motion blur would be welcome.
