That looks really cool to me.
Could you say something about the render times and what machine you used to render it so we can roughly compare it to 1.7?

I'm not sure about sl, but using 1.7 it took many hours to get here and get it noise free in those dark areas, btw I used hdr lighting

This looks amazing!
Great work Nico... one tiny little technical thing I noticed:
You have banding on the background.
Did you save the render as 16 or 32 bit Image file?
If not I would try that and then manually convert back to 8 bit in PS
Still great scene!

That's strange, I can't see any banding here? it looks like a perfect gradient, but I will convert it to 8bit see how it looks than.

Aren't you always going to get that when you export a jpeg for web viewing?
