Bubbaloo: Wow waht a fantastic sunset scen ya got wit dem leaves...Looks like you subd your falt planes to make em curved to help the leaf look out.. I tried this but kept getting polyface faceting showing. will have to try again with the new patch..

m-Que: That looks like its rendering pool water caustics at a pretty low samle level?!!?!? and your using some trick--At first i though clipmaped..but now that you show it moving..it must be more/diff than just clipmapin it!? or is just that the power of v2 now? can wait to see what ya got next and maybe a mxm too!

Tom: sweetness cleanness Vase!.. so cool to bring the vases back ..i do like em better than the horrible teapots.. and your vase is soo clean..and such great color too!

A little update; still working on it.
Rendered @ 640x480; Physical sky + sun; simple plane & bump map.

Image

For some reason dielectrics now clean lightening-fast (at list while I was doing those water tests). The image's been rendered at 640x480 for about 15 minutes and reached SL around 10. It was almost clean at SL 7.
Also did 40 frames(400x300; SL7) for yesterday's animation in less than 2 hours - and it's so noisy only because I had to compress the images to make sure the final .gif is not too big.
There's NO WAY I could render that image above in 15 min. on 1.7 (and believe me, I know what the word "SLOOOOOW" means - I am a proud owner of slowest machine of the Maxwell comunity  )
Could it be the power of V2? 8)

So, what do you think?

BTW, I keep having serious problems with setting the sun position - I'm using a GPS navigator in Studio (moving the sun manually) and the Sun keeps "running away" & "jumping around"; so, not only I can't set the desired position of the sun, for example, I can't set it to 12:00 (in the very center.) :?

When you try to drag in around from the earth image, it is respecting the time zones, so you get that "jumping around" effect.

What I'm trying to say is that in 1.7 when I wanted the sun to be "above" my head, I would simply drag the "yellow ball" in GPS in the "center" where "2 red lines are crossing";
Now, in V2, when I want to do the same thing, the "yellow ball" keeps avoiding the "red cross" no metter what I do, and so I keep chasing the "yellow ball" like a dog.
Plus "yellow ball meets the red cross" doesn't mean the sun is above my head anymore.

whoa!?!?!? Mque.. are you saing that those casutics are comping from the plane just having a BUMP map on it???? Really NO displacment?.. How did you do the animation? is it Geometry animated or the texture files animated.. you got me scratchin my head.. and with most impressive results as you say you are on slow machine... you must be using a "ghost" layer to help the caustics form, NO?.. please share your process when you get it wrapped up!

Thank you Maximus, Tom and ceggi for the positive comments ! Very appreciated. I haven't designed this helmet, but I did do some work on it in Rhinoceros 4.0. I am using nPower Translators to import this in 3ds max, but I am having some workflow (explicit vertex normals) issues with it, that I don't have with VRay (under the belt shot !) :)

I will have to make a Camtasia capture or something and show the Nextlimit team...

Tom - That is beautiful!! I would like to pick your brain just for curiosity's sake :)........ when you mentioned earlier that the vase was created with a milky core and then the rest was up to attenuation did you mean that you modeled a 'core' to the vase.... is that how you applied the milky sss to just that region?
Thanks in advance and if you don't feel like sharing your secret that is cool, I don't mean to be too intrusive in my question :)
