PA3K wrote:Yes, it would be nice to see some V3 stuff here as at the first place. I am not on facebook, I don`t use twitter, I can`t go to Anahaim (I would like to). I think many of us are here since alpha, beta, RC ... Some may remember "its friday" words conjunction, buffos complaints, Oscar answers ... I don`t want to complain - I am far away from it, I just want to say, that for me it was always something more than just about render engine. I like this comunity, I would like to meet people from here and talk to them... I had always feeling that we are witness of something revolutionary. And this enthusiasm was in almost every topic that I read. There wasn`t even "Off topic" section, because everything was "On topic"... Hope I am not too sentimental :) remember "old good times". I am looking forward to 2014 World soccer championship, and Spain team to win the final match to have upgrade my one V2 license, as I did with my V1 back in 2010. I wish to Next Limit team many invention ideas, many good customers, and to see us - old maxwellians as an important supportive comunity.

I hope it's usable to upgrade v3.
Thanks for mentioning this topic. I've forgot that I have this promo code :-)

All the mentioned new stuff sounds great. A small thing that would make my life a lot easier would be if the preview model in the material window would be with orientation enabled. The fixed one makes working with uv-mapped textures a drag.

Better yet have fire enabled in the preview window of the material editor. So you would be able to pan zoom and rotate the preview scene to your liking. I cant imagine them not including this feature in version 3. Would be awesome.

Do you know you can make your own preview scene? I have a Cinema 4D scene which I created to make my own previews, mainly for transparent objects. Still just a simple sphere or box but in 2m and 20cm sizes so that I can evaluate absorbtion distances and also solid and walled versions to see how that affects absorbtion and IOR. I think I also had your problem with UVs on the existing scene so I set the map to face forward and not wrap 360°. Happy to share if it helps.

This is an old wish, but I still think it is needed:

More stable versions.
Since Maxwell is in continuous development, it is continually suffering from malfunctioning, in diferent degrees.
I know it is impossible to get it right in one step, but I must say that sometimes we need stability, for instance a certain version that could be specially stable.
Other software developers use to provide two kind of updates, the safer for people who needs stability, and the risky for people that wants to explore new stuff.
This do not means Next Limit to work double, it only needs certain order, as follows:

step 1: introduce new stuff, together with the risk of malfunctioning, and provide a normal update
step 2: fix bugs recently introduced (but do not introduce more new stuff) and provide a normal update.
step 3: fix all possible bugs that could appear as result of the new functionality added in step 1, and provide a safe update.
step 4: introduce new stuff an on...

In this way, users can choose (depending on circumstances) a safe version (step 3) or the newest version (step 4)
This should be informed in the web site, so that everybody can choose.

OK, here you go. I remembered I had a commercial HDR in there that I can't share so I've replaced that with something I made in HDR Light Studio. If you're not a C4D user, the MXS files are in there but if you are, you can edit the C4D file as you please. It's nothing fancy but I UV'ed the spheres with a simple front projection so that I could clearly see how my texture looks on it without any spherical mapping distortion. HTH

Just drop the MXS files into your Maxwell Preview folder (on Mac: /Applications/Maxwell 2/preview) and they'll show up with all the other optional preview files.

I just had a look and the 1m objects are around 3.5cm thick on the walls, the 20cm objects are around 0.7cm thick on the walls. But I didn't build them with a special thickness in mind, there's just such a radical difference in look to a solid vs hollow glass object when you get to the larger sizes.
