Hi

I´ve a theoretical question concerning "textures". I want to mostly physical correct visualize the interior of a sailing yacht. As i know Maxwell is a physical correct renderer. But to be physical correct i have to describe the used material as good as possible. The ideal goal is, that the rendering of Maxwell is identical with a taken photo of the interior of the sailing yacht.

My question ... I read something ( only in rough terms, i´m not an expert) about the measurement of material probes. As i learned i could me sure the physical behaviour of materials in terms of

BRDF ( Bidirectional reflection distribution)
BTDF ( Bidirectional transmittance distribution)
BSDF ( Bidirectional scattering distribution) ( Is the term BSDF here in the same meaning as the maxwell term ? )

Suppose i would get this measurements ( BRDF , BTDF) of material probes. Is it possible to use these measurement in the material editor of maxwell to produce mostly correct behavior ? The final goal is to make the decision of the styling of the interior based of the rendering, NO build up of a physical mock up, but that means the rendering MUST be mostly identical with the reality.

Best,
Tom

Yes, collect all the data you can but make sure to post a copy here

Seriously, Primus this only works for pure substances (no texture maps) and the file sgenerated are called IOR files, theres a whole bunch in your maxwell installed folder.

Thank you Eric and sorry for my question. I searched for BRDFs and was not familiar with "IOR", didn´t use it until now. I´m just starting again with Maxwell, after a long time and have to learn again.

I read the documentation about IOR now and i understand.

Thank you for the tip.

Best,
Thomas
