Wow nice looking rendering there of the ring Adam :D it looks almost like the reference photo except for on a few places. Very good job!
Then i probably don't need to post mine.. :/

O well.. heh, here it is anyways. It's lightyears from as good as Adam's version.
This is rendered at 1024x768, reduced in half with no other postprocessing to it other than the logo and text i added to it. It took 7,5 hours to render this far.. and it reached sampling level 10,86.
Since the only reference i had was the photo Greg posted my model lacks a bit in a few places, it don't have the same dimensions as i had to shoot from the hip when i made it, and my materials are waaaaay off too :/ but maybe next time i'll fix it!

On Sat Jul 09, DBX was the 1st to complete the challenge with this image:
Image
That is the raw image from Maxwell with 6 samples at 1 hour.

Adam Trachtenberg's entry is also a winner. I have offered to compensate him for his participation in this challenge but I am unable to summon any response from him. I hope he accepts, maybe I can learn something from both.

Thank's to everyone for participating!

See you next time!

Adam Trachtenberg wrote:If I was doing it for myself I'd have used an alpha channel, added the BG in post, and concentrated more on getting the highlights correct on the ring.
I've not experimented with alpha channels in Maxwell but I've seen the option to render them in the maxwell render plugin dialogue. Is there a tag or how does one activate an alpha channel? My current method requires a rerender using the default C4D rendering engine.
