C4D Lights?

How are they used anyway?
I just did a small test with a default omni w soft shadows, and in C4D it renders out fine, but in Maxwell it comes out completely dark.
Am i missing something?

There's no real magic to using them now, add the omni or whatever lightsource from C4D in your scene, adjust the segments and radius settings if necessary and hit render. Works fine here!
In C4D
3 min rendering

Thanks Max.
Yep, that´s precisely the procedure i tried. Comes out as shown here.
Perhaps it´s a scaling issue. I´ve never used emitters with Maxwell before, so i´m pretty sure this one is my fault.

what happens if you lower shutter speed to 1 and raise the iso to 200 or more? do you see the lights then?

No difference there.
Do any of you know of another way to add some point lights to a scene?
This just doesn´t seem to work no matter what i do.

From what I can make with your screen grab it maybe that the 100 radius of the omni light is too big so what you are seeing is the inside of the light (which will be black because of normal direction). Lower the radius in the maxwell panel and see if that helps.
For noise reduction purposes it may also be worth reducing the number of segments that the omni lights get converted too in the Maxwell panel.
If you still have problems then 'plan b' would be to apply a maxwell emitter based material to a suitable low poly' object and use that as a light source.

You actually nailed it. The radius was the problem.
Thanks a lot Becco.

Rochr: Good you got it sorted. Now make one of you brilliant scenes to show how Maxwell should be used!

Hello Rochr,
If you go into the plugin default settings, I normally set my sphere radius to something small like 0.5 inches. A radius of 100 is really to large for most type scenes as was mentioned.
Thanks Maximus and Becco_UK for the assist on getting to a solution here!

Thanks Tyrone.
0.5 sounds about right. I ended up using a light radius around 1, but going even lower would probably give a better result.
I realize the values are scene dependant, but at least i have something to start with.

Although C4D lights get translated very well i came to the conclusion that they introduce more noise into the render than is justifiable for the quickness of the light setup. I especially avoid the spotlight, the omni can be reduced in complexity to a level that gives ok results.
I rather create my own low-poly objects and light with these.
