how to make a rug/carpet look 'thicker'?

Hi

I'm working on a meditation room scene (there's a post in the WIP area).

I've made a circular rug in the centre of the scene by using a plane and applying a homemade MXM but it looks very flat.

Done a fair bit of playing with the MXM but nothing seems to work.

Any tips on making it look more like a rug?

Give the model some thickness?

must be obvious to you mihai...not to me.

do you mean use a cylinder instead of a plane? or something else?

a cylinder will do fine - bevel the edges!

and displacement will really give volume to it when it gets released.
