Sunlight differs between c4d and maxwell

Hi.
As the title says.
When I use the same location and the same date & time, c4d-renders and maxwell-renders should produce same shadows.
But the shadow that comes from the c4d-sun grows in a different direction then the shodow that comes from the maxwell-sun.
What am I doing wrong?
Thx.
P.S.:
I am using the new 1.1k-plug. I tried different GMT settings... couldn't match them still though.

I second this!
And how to link the two sun systems together???

Haven't tried it on 1.1K as I can't seem to unzip the files yet...
But previously there was a 90 degree difference between North in C4D and in M~R. Rotate your scene 90 degrees counter clockwise and see if the shadows come out right. It was the case before.

It is the case now too! I just checked it.

Well, at least there is a work around. I wish that you could specify a north vector with a null the way you can in Final Render, not all buildings align with NSEW but it is better to model orthographicaly.

Hmm... I checked this 90 degr..thing yesterday and gone completely weird. I gave up for that day, and tried again today.... and the problem showed in again a different manner... so rendered a few tests, to show what I'm curious about right now... maybe someone can help, please... I def. need the suns sync.
-No 90 degr. trick
-Comparison between c4d sun and mw sun
-left rows show 15 jul 08am-20am in mw and c4d, right ones show...well its titled anyway..
-GMT +0200 in mw-plug
clockwise the suns seems to be synchronized... monthwise they seem to be sync from apr to oct... strange
Am a little bit confused now...
Sorry for big format... and thx in advance

that looks like the daylight savings time does all your trouble.
in cinema it is used automatically (you still can turn it off).
you can see that in march and november you have these jumps. that´s where the daylight saving time is changed. (you see the jump only in november because the change is late october)
in the summer months the time is the same. in the winter months you can see the difference.
hope this helps

Hmmmm.... yessss.... thank you BigK. That was it...
So... with this issue solved... what about that 90 degrees-trick... Where's the need to turn the scene 90degr.? Seems to work prefect without.
Thanks again for helping me.

The 90 degree offset was fixed sometime ago!

Looks like the 90 degree issue is still there in my case. i position the sun in the viewport to be right from the front of the object and in render i get the sun straight from the left. i guess it maybe the GMT offset, that is set to 100 by default... Which value should it be?

Well, it should be that value that is relevant for the location of your scene.
When your scene is located in - let's say - Moscow, then it' gotta be.... well... hm... I don't know...

but I'm sure, you do. Berlin would be GMT+01 for instance.
In both c4d and maxwell you've got to adjust the same GMT value, for them to be sync. And - as BigK mentioned - you've got to edit the daylight savings time in c4d. I turned it off now, so I don't have to bother anymore.
After these adjustments the suns are well synchronized here.

MW & Sky Expression

I´ve made a simple Expression which links the C4D Sky and the Maxwell Render Settings.
It transfers and syncs the values for the time and the location which you can now choose quite handy from the C4D Presets. You should switch daylight savings off as mashium mentioned.
Only change the values for the C4D Sky. The Expression will transfer it to the Maxwell Render Settings as shown below.
And here the download link (so far only C4D10):
http://www.rendertaxi.de/mxl_images/MW& ... ession.zip (OLD)
V 0.1: (with addition Timezone/GMT Link suggested by Tyrone):
http://www.rendertaxi.de/mxl_images/MW_ ... nc_0.1.zip
I´m thinking of syncronizing much more data.. the new render settings object gives us a lot of possibilities i think.
If you have ideas to improve the expression, please let me know or just build it in and post the modified version.
cheers, alex

Thanks Alex,
Can you post this in a new thread so I can make a sticky out of it?

Looks like C4D 10. It does not open in 9.6, can you save back to an older version?
Thanks, very useful utility.

I made a change to link GMT to Maxwell Render Object from Cinema 4D. I added a FloatMath:Multiply xpresso object to bind Sky TimeZone to Maxwell Render GMT.
Thanks Alex, I hope you do not mind my edit.
