HDRI sky in C4D

It seems that the Studio and other plug-ins (3DMax) have the option to assign an HDRI for a sky, C4D does not but there is a tag that would seem to have something to do with it, but did not get it to work.

Anybody figure this one out yet?

Also, a manual for C4D is needed, I would gladly volunteer to write one up but I alone do not have the time to experiment with everything. Any of you interested in colaboration on a manual? This way too we can see what works and what does not and document it.

Thanks,

D

The Skymap tag is for rendering HDRI in Cinemaxwell. I am thinking of making a tutorial for this.

That's right Nico.fr, I do not know how to use HDRI insice C4D...

Thanks Tyrone, I think that makes sense. I'll have some time to experiment today.

Found it:

take a C4D-sky objekt
give it a c4d mat with a HDRI in all corresponding channels
give it a mw-sky-map tag

try it without skydome or physical-sky. done

perhaps i missed something because this was a trial&error method....

best regards.

Jan

p.s. sorry, i didnt want to kill your tut tyrone, but for me it was to long to wait for this.... and i just found out. I would welcome a detailed tut to understand every channel completly.

I found it too but too bad i don't get any reflections off of my HDR image.
I threw in a MXI and no luck with reflections either.
I opened studio and seems that two of the four channels are off.
Maybe a bug.... or I'm doing something wrong.

i did it with all mat-channels

(i think only the reflecion channel will be responsible for that kind of effect you mention, but maybe tyrone can explain this a little bit more. i don“t have much time to test more this evening.... real life you know ;-) )

result (only lighted with the hdri):

(the strange shadow belongs to the hdri image)

Got the reflection to work. Had to throw the HDRI in the reflection channel of C4D's mat system.

I have to teach my brain to think C4D & Maxwell now

Documentation would save me on asprin.
