I've got some models that look like crap when I take the phong tag off.
Do I *have to* take them off to render or make an mxs file with the C4D plug in?
I have been taking them off, but these models are unuseable without them.
Thanks for any tips.

Hm, i can't see why you would take them off. I keep them on as most models look like crap with them off. Unless it's models like gemstones which generally looks crappier with phong on them. Is that the trouble you're having Larry ?

Perhaps keep the phong tag on but change the smoothing angle so it looks the way you want it. Or just turn off smoothing if necessary..

Hey Max,
I always take the phong tag off gem shapes, unless you want them to look *tumbled* and not faceted. :D
I'm making some studio backgrounds and I've been taking the phong tags off everything, but these things look like crap without them. I'm making a render now after making the mxs with the plug. Seems to be doing OK.
I just recall reading earlier that they should all be removed. Glad to know that's not so.
Thanks for the post.

Hi again Larry

I think you can keep the phong tag on but just change it's smoothing angle or simply turn smoothing off on the tag itself if you have objects in your scene where you need it on or off. If a object like a gem which needs flat surfaces and sharp edges then perhaps setting the smoothing angle to zero degress will do the job :) i'm not sure..

But i'd guess that it's more scene and object dependant if you wanna keep the tag there or not, for background objects and rings and such things you should probably keep it on and active. Otherwise just tick it off or something so that you get the look you want. It seems quite logical to me :)
