QIODevice::seek (QTcpSocket): Cannot call seek on a sequential device

In the hope of getting some input on this, can we please address the cause of this issue:

maxwell_cmd.png

^This terminal pops up on machines running the node, the moment they start rendering a network job. If an unsuspecting user closes the terminal, his node and the job crash.

This issue has been reported several times by different members over the past 3 years:

2018-10-30: Nodes not rendering any more!
2018-10-18: After Win10 Update 2 of 12 nodes do not render anymore
2017-10-18: QIODevice::seek!?
2017-06-13: Maxwell Studio 4 - small annoying things
2016-11-09: v4 Render Node(s) Network Error

Please address.

If currently it isn't possible to solve this, please at least can there be an option to ignore the warning so that no terminal pops up? Maxwell's render times are notoriously long, and thus for many applications network rendering is essential. We've spent a lot of time trying to troubleshoot network rendering, and this is one of the last issues we aren't able to solve.

Hello,
I agree with Jasper ...

I still have this problem with Maxwell 5 and I only use one machine .... :(
It would still be necessary to think about solving this problem ... quite painful.

Have a goog day

I migrated to e new and wonderfully fast workstation.
Sadly I now have this issue.
Launching several renderings my taskbar get's filled up with up to 7 terminal windows!

One solution is to group apps in the taskbar but I really don't like that as I cant move fast between apps and windows as I'm used to.

There IS a solition:
setting Maxwell up to be launched as administrator from the properties, BUT then I can't anymore open Maxwelle files on our server with a double click.
It would just open Maxwell wirh an empty scene..
And yes, I can open files from within Maxwell, but that's not how I navigate our vast server!

The new workstation has Windows 11, the old one Wndows 10.
Can this be the reason?

any advice?

I would like to fix this problem, not change my workflow habits..

I found a way to hide Termnal windows to the the notification area:

just go to Terminal settings --> Apearance --> Hide when Minimized --> SAVE

Works great!
