When I am starting Network manager this is happening, sometimes its with nodes too. To be honest after last fresh windows install yesterday (lightwave was not sending jobs to Network Monitor after upgrade to 2.1 and I could not fix it) I have managed to do 1 render and if failed whan merging anyway.
I am in the process of setting up my own network controller but until then I would like to be able to render using my computers, not only locally...
BTW, I am on Win 7 x64.
