Ring Light

Just playing around with a "ring" light, a flat disc with a hole in it. A subtle effect, but it seems to me, too time consuming.
Coments wellcome.

Very nice look with beautiful caustic. I like the idea. Maybe, your hole in the emitter bring to much extra polygons and noise. I would try to use a plane emitter with a ring texture.

I don't know if you care... but I noticed:
the thumbtack point seems flat.
the surface seems a bit shiney for a small bit of cheap plastic.
The slot where the metal is inserted usually has some flaws... perhaps a bit matt, perhaps a stray bubble or two.
the body seems a bit long. most of these kinds of tacks I've seen are much shorter, which could be a regional issue.
cheers.

Nice and elegant test
I'd something like this some time ago.

Yes, I guess it is a bit fancy for a pushpin. I eyeballed it so it is a bit long. I was going more for the ring light and the shadows and caustics it would cause, not so much for the pin. I am not sure why the point seems to be flat, it is a cone, modeled in C4D. The DOF is quite shallow but it should still look mory "pointey" if that is a word.
Cheers
