c4d´s particles aren´t poor, so far ican tell, but doing tehm postrendering is more efficient, that´s right...
should try a bit with thinking particles.
good reference is
http://www.hypa.tvtry those sample scenes and you´ll never say c4d particles are poor again...
sorry, i was drunk, t´was saturday night, so excuse my faults...

:: don't go and do any drink driving... it can get more messy than you show in your render

I'm very excited by the lighting in this image! It has an almost perfect street at night illumination. Are the background buildings modeled or a plate?
An could you please show us you light setup via a screen grab of you view ports?
Very nice

Out side the buildings the only light sources are the street lamps?

oh no.. sorry.. forgot that.. there are the streetlamps.. the traffic lights, one emitter left of the viewer, one behind him further right, the lights of the primera.. lights inside of the cars and a fill light above the brick-house..

IMHO, this is a rendertime record for such complexity!
I mostly like the glass particles on the street...
