~1 million polygons, render time around 50 hours on Dual Xeon 3GHz HT (I set it to render during my 4 day holiday but my PC had crashed or maybe I ran out of RAM at one point and my PC froze), don't know the sampling level exactly. All modeled in Solidworks (approx 600 operations), although you can see a few smoothing problems in the mesh.. Sorry about that.. don't know how to get it fixed without having to take up to 2GB of RAM

UPDATE AUGUST 28th
The Thing SuperTechHeroes render of a Megabloks toy. 1.6 million polygons. Sample level 19.31 reached in 14 hours 15 minutes. Sunlight+skydome used. Tired of letting the thing run, here's the result. Not modeled by me though.

Sh*t, this is at 15.57 sampling level, took 45 hours on Dual Xeon 3GHz 800FSB DDR2 mem. I quit !

did you use the mxi:c flag so you can continue the render? Would be nice to restart it and just adjust the ss and fstop, it look a bit over exposed.
How do you export your models from Solid Works?

Hi all and thanks for the comments.
Salut Mihai, to go from Solidworks to MAX I simply exported a .STL file. As for the camera, fStop is at 10 and SS is at 90, is that not a good idea? The scene is like this basically :

Great modeling on the camera, very precise and clean

i like that one! however the rendering is a bit.. flat. Perhaps the camera angle could be different and more exciting, and the lightsetup could use some more work. But overall i like it!

Hi all, thanks for the comments.
PV - The nurbs model translation is hickup-y, as you can see just above the flash the polygons don't align quite right and there's some bugs in the smoothing of the surface.
Maximus - I tried a new angle with a floor pattern to add dynamism to the scene (ie: reflective object to be mirrored on the surface to give more depth to the 3D) Sample 15.21 reached in 1h30m (with some time 1 CPU disabled so I can work on other stuff while rendering) Tiny tweeks on the textures, as well as fStop 150 instead of 90.
Any comments appreciated !

I like the new one more, its looking really nice
The only thing, what abbe setting are you using for the glass, try using something around 150-200 it should help claer up the flash area.

Now look at that new rendering! it looks alot better and much more realistic

nice work mate.
It's definately a step up from your first rendering.

Hey, I still have my commodore mousepad, so I like the first pic. I'm shure the mouse was a bit shallower towards the buttons but it looks very much like my Amiga Mouse.
