Fran - the island counter top is 3cm absolute black granite that has been doubled to form what is termed a "waterfall edge" - the top layer has a half bullnose resting on a larger ogee-edged base. It is something that you don't see very often as it is quite costly to do.
BTW - The second image (posted above) just finished at 30 hours and reached 18 samples with no discernable difference in quality.

Hot damn that looks great! beautiful kitchen and i love those textures and design on the cabinets, it got a bit of a dark moody feeling to it. Thumbs up from me for this one!

Fran - Fortunately, my supplier out of Virginia Beach is giving me all of the stone in my house - I've sent them a lot of business over the years and I guess this is their way of thanking me.....
