A simple teapot, modeled in Rhino.

Rhinoll 0.6.1, Maxwell Beta 1.2.2

15 hrs, SL 15.
Slight De-Noising in Photoshop.
Athlon 64 FX-55, 2.6 GHz, 1 Gig RAM. ATI FireGL V7100 256 Mb

I notice the areas that were still noisy after so long rendering were those lit primarily by indirect reflected light.
Is it a better strategy to use more lights and higher shutter speeds at the risk of blowing out the image with too much light, vs less light and lower shutter speeds, but better control over shadows???

I know it's simple, but C&C are always welcome.

Sorry to bother you for questions different than the quality of your images (that are in any case far boyond my capabilities with maxwell at present state), i9 would really like to know if you used a plugin with photoshop or just blurred a bit your image.
Thanx anyway!

Very nicely done! Excellant modeling, especially the handle attachments to the body, looks like it really should with the glaze smoothing over the joint...the pot has a beautiful form also. The only thing that stops it for me is the texture of the handle itself, don't know what it's supposed to be but it looks like cheap plastic. Doesn't fit with the rest of the pot to my eye...perhaps a realistic bamboo might be better.

Cheers, Ron

@Mattia: I just selected the areas that had too much noise and ran the "Median" filter to smooth it out a bit.

@Ron: Thanks for the comments. I'll have to UV map the handle and try a photo-real bamboo texture on it. That and a HDRI sky dome when I get the chance.

@X-Site: Thanks! I love how realistic Maxwell renders without having to try too hard!

I love it Axe!
Can you share your light settings? (emitter/s position, energy, dimensions, camera settings, etc...?) :D

Thanks Iker,

For reference of scale: the teapot itself is 14cm in diameter.

Lights:
Main light: 1cm x 1 cm, just to the left of the camera, approx same height as camera, 30 cm from teapot. D65, 750 Power.
Secondary light: 1 cm x 1 cm, close to the floor, angled up. to the right and slightly to the front of the teapot, also 30 cm away. D65, 500 power.
1 large (7 cm x 7 cm) behind and to the left of the teapot, 50 cm above the teapot, angled down. D65, 100 power. This is a soft fill light to cut the harsh shadows and give a little rim enhancement.

Camera: 50mm, about 30 cm away. ss 100, f-stop 32 (I may have changed the shutter a bit during the render). ISO 100.

Scene: Everything is enclosed in a rounded-ended cylinder 85 cm diameter, 60 cm high.

No environment/sky/sun.

Hope this is clear!
