this took about 2 hours rendering with Sunlight.it actually looks bit flat, don't you think? i don't know how to give a fill light.
does anyone think some people might interested in this piece?
i don't think it's good enough to sell this at this stage.
i will keep update more later.
any advices are welcome!! [/img]

I think part of your problem is the outside of the ring isn't reflecting anything and has no specular highlights. I'd try removing the daylight and using some emitters as well as surrounding it with something to reflect.

Now i don't know how you did it but somehow you achieved a cartoon shader look using Maxwell

that's the first time i've seen that.
The ring itself is quite pretty, not too bad but it might be a bit too bulky and big for a woman with thiny fingers to wear one.

this is done with emitter. i think it took about 6 hours and still it has lots of noise.to give a specular light, should i put some reflection plane around it?
could you give me some advice how to make it look more realistic?
and ya.many of my works from maxwell actually looks like cartoon.i don't know what i did wrong.maybe it's one of those things that no one can achieve?
this ring is about 3 grams in YEL 18k. it has under-cut on the top of ring.

Well that one is definatley better than the other.

As far as making it look more realistic I think reflections are really going to help you out, also make sure your scene scale is set correctley.

1. it's floating. Try putting it in a realistic setting, or place it on a realistic surface like white marble, or ceramic
2. the cuts are too perfect. I make jewellery (or I used to) and it's actually near impossible to create something so perfect. So, add a little geometry to suggest that the edges of those cuts are not perfect right angels...
3. either use an HDRI image for an environment or create something for it to reflect... like a window... or something that suggests it's in a real physical space.
edit: 4. I just noticed the inside of the ring... most likely that inset region would be a bit matt vs. the polished area of the ring. The ring would be most likely sand/glass blasted in that area... or not.. but if not there wouldn't be a sharp edge there either.
as a jewellery maker I'd suggest actually rounding those edges anyway. One would constantly be snagging it on things, and actually it's possible to cut yourself quite easily with a gold ring with those kinds of razor sharp accents.
cheers.

Here try this tut,
Its for lighting jewellery in the real world, I tried it and it works pretty well, I had trouble making the really small specular lights. see how you go.

the last one looks really good but your ring seems to have no thickness.
