I don't know if it's a Maxwell thing, or if the surfaces need a bit more tweaking.

The car is on a surface which looks like the consistency of high gloss white plastic. Regardless of the surface, unless ALL of the light is reflected (chrome/mirror) some of it will be reflected back at random angles, So there should be shadows.. under the wheels.

Which is why the car looks like it be floating.

Yes, but one thing I don't understand why aren't there enough depth? Where are the shadows :o Can you send a non textured version of this if you have time?
