Here are some collected works from my graduation project and the project before it, both libraries. I am by no means a profesional renderer but i still liked the images enough to show them here.

The images have personality, that is something I admire when looking at CG images.

is this only lit by skydome and the colours are done using a radial purple gradient in ps?

lit by a HDRI (the free one from HDRI locations) and indeed a lot of photoshop gradient funkyness, but not just purple ones. I just created a gradient where i needed it and adjusted the color with a HueSat adjustment layer so I can still change all the colors if i need to. (basicaly i use this set up alot and only differ the Hue settings and the Opacity value)
