disassembled yoyo (final)

I already posted some earlyier versions in the maxwell forum, but now that it is final I thought it'd best fit in here. It does include minor postprocessing, I had to correct some meshing problems that made two tiny areas (4 pixels or so) appear black. Also, this is a composite - the main image rendered 85hours, reaching 23 samples at 16 bounces (imagine getting that in 20 hours with the beta!!

. I did another render of only the plastic materials as I wasn't happy with it and pasted it in. Also I rendered the "tube" on the left cap with 100 bounces to get better result due to TIR.
Hope you like it!

Very nice. The materials look very real.
If you could let it cook a little more to rid the noise on the cap (right hand side) it would be awesome (easily pass as a photo).

Very good work!
With the exception of the noise and the floor the parts are spread on, u could have come up with something more creative than default grey

thomas, max, thanks for your comments. I'm rerendering the noisy part, should take just another 40h till it gets 24 samples! Also increased abbe to 1000 from 150, so I can compare the difference it makes.
max: it is not default gray: 143 instead of 128

I was thinking to have a "real" floor, but getting that right with a close up is kinda a project of its own, at least to me! please suggest something nicer so I can do a better rendering once the beta is out! Also then I would render it all in one go, should be faster than rendering different parts of the image on their own and pasting them - also there'd be a bit more maxwell spirit in!

I think the ground is alright. In product design you don't want the ambient stuff stealing the focus of attention.
What I would do is maybe play with the rear emitter you have there. Keep the front one as D65 but try a type B (or A) for the rear and see if the warm glow improves the overall aesthetic.

thomas that's what I really like rendering for, you can have studio like setups without the cost involved, particularly for maxwell that is true. I'll try with the other light when the beta's out!

abgrafx, you're right, it's a yoyo, one of those that spin freely before they come back. I should have stated that at the beginning of the thread, glad you figured it on your own
torolf, please call me by my first name which is just johann
I converted my model to 3ds, so most people should be able to use that:

I could not export the maxwell materials, so you'll have to make your own. I'd really like to see what you come up with!

Thats great mate but its missing a MAJOR peice!!!
Wheres the string?
How is the cat going to play with it now?
Very very impressive. I like technical models like that.

thanks makaka and subspark for your nice words.
@subspark: I did not put it in cause I thought of it as a "soft" part that is kinda not belongin into the scene. However give it a try doing the string if you have some spare time, I'd like to see what it looks like anyway. That's what the model is there for too!

I have nothing to say...such a master piece !
85 hrs .... I can't imagine the time spend on it, I have only one computer to manipulate in the office, so please forgive me.

Thanks Siegfried! I too have only my laptop to work with, but while it was rendering I was not doing so much cpu / ram demanding work. And I don't have to make a living from this yet...

I have to wait minutes to start another applications when the MW renders, so normally I would only set a high value and hit the render button when I leave office, and check out the outcome in the next day.
