this looks nice.
i have followed all your posts about the progress.
now having the WIP in mind (and don´t get me wrong) i am a little disappointed with this final.
it is a good image, but i think your model has so much details and potential that the image doesn´t do justice to your model.
maybe you could add some motion to it (as it is flying). the motionblur could be either on the model or on the clouds, which would be better maybe because you get to see the model better.
you could also add some hot air (distortion and mirage effects due to the heat) or even smoke coming out of the jets.
and shouldn´t the landing gear be moved in as it is hydraulic and is not used flying in this height.
hope you don´t mind and i love your work on it !
cheers
michael

Maximus3D: Thank you. I still have your comments in mind from teh WIP thread and all being well some of your ideas will be incorporated into the model as its continued development continues.
big K: Thank you also. Constructive comments that help imrove my work are always welcome. Maybe I was too impatient to see how a final render looked - I tried some smoke effects as postwork but ended up removing them! The only post effect I ended up adding was a touch of heat haze behind the rear engine bells. I agree that the landing gear doesn't look quite right but this is how the actual studio model worked. The plans I'm working from where developed from a surviving real Studio Eagle model. I wish to keep the authenticity of the original model as far as possible. I assume if the real model had been developed in these modern days then it would be packed with all manner of radio controlled gear and all manner of visual effects added that were not available when the TV series was made.

heat haze, that´s the word !
i agree with the model being close to the TV series and also that the landing gear is not movable therefore.
if you are still on it you could experiment with some motion blur though (eagle or background), i think that will give the little extra to the image.

big K: I will try motion blur with the third render. Too late for the second one.

if the landing gear is not movable then why the perfectly matching recesses on the frame above it? looks as if the all thing retracts once in flight... but like you said their budget did not stretch enough...
GREAT IMAGE

x_site: The landing gear is semi movable. In flight it just bottoms out due to its simple internal mecahanism. When landing the 'leg' compresses an internal spring. The recess you mention also had me wondering about the original design intentions - I think the footpad would look much better in flight if it fitted in that recess - but then the footpad or recess would have required alterations as it is larger than the recess. Also, full retraction would have meant a different internal structure to the side pods and so on and so on! If you ever get access to the dvd's of Space 1999 there is a concept drawing of the Eagle which I think looks much better. Very tempted to have a go at that - as I see it that was the original idea not the model that ended up being made.
Or 'plan B' would be to make an alternative landing gear for my model and see what the Eagle looks like with the foot pad neatly tucked away in that recess during flight.

Dude.. i think you just set yourself a challenge for the new year. I am sure your knowledge of this space craft makes you the perfect candidate to bring us the ultimate prototype

'
At Cockleshell Bay'
Third full render of my Space 1999, Eagle Transporter model. Fitted this time with a 'white' passenger pod and side boosters. The side boosters lack a bit of accuracy and shouldn't be used for reference purposes.

I really like your images - in the first one there seem to be a difference in whitebalance between your render (warm) and the clouds (colder) - just an observation

trofaster: Thank you. In the first image I think I lowerered the sun colour temperature a bit too much and had the background intensity set too high
