the second one looks a bit like solar panel promotion instead of water on something... might be because of the tiling.

To be honest these pictures don't really looks like rendered with Maxwell.

And to the modelling - I think you should look a lot more to details. Both pictures look crude and like 3D. So what's the point in making them look real (with Maxwell) when the lack of detail is telling - this is 3d?

I am thinking maybe it's a blue paint that turns any surface into solar panel.. house roof.. umbrella... car roof... :D
BTW, is it Santa Claus sitting there.. taking orders for Xmas...?

They were done in Maxwell... Not sure what is so obviously crude about them that makes it seem that it is not. Please enlighten me so I can learn. I know my skill is not as high up as some of the users and to you all it may be pretty primitive. But like I said its a life long learning process and it took me forever.

I appreciate the crits like adding more detail but at my level I felt I added a lot... what kind of things are missing that make it look so primitive?.

It is a solar cell technology, but its non toxic and you do pour it on and it crystalizes into solar cell. The guy at the desk is a nobel prize winner who invented the technology that enable cell phone screens etc. So in a sense I guess he is like Father Christmas. This technology may bring light and power in a clean way to third world countries that have no light at night etc. So its actually pretty cool.

Thanks for the feedback

ahh ok.. cool guy then.. maybe because the beard... hehe..

Try to work your textures mapping .. some tiling are too big or too small... too repetitive.. try to use some arroway textures..
Go to Think! site.. there are some nice tutorials about it there...

Cheers..

also as said.. try to work your geometry details...

In the first render, the pencil is floating and you may want to add more edges to the lamp. The visible facets around the curved edge are very noticeable.

Thanks herve and bubaloo for the advise and suggestions. Both obvious and heck when you point them out... But my mind happily looks right by them as I am trying to focus fir hours in somethng else. I need to step back and look at them freshly once in a while I think.

Appreciate the thoughtsful input.
