Hi All,
this 3 images are from review and tutorial on next issue of "Computer grafica
Tecniche & Applicazioni" (issue 44, June), an italian CGI print magazine
(
www.imagonet.it).
The author of tutorial and images is Stefano Salvatore with 3DS Max connection on Athlon FX55
and 2 GB Ram (the piano is a 10 hours rendering).
We are considering to translate the tutorial in english
and post it in the forum.
The bitmap textures are from our commercial
Architectural Texture CD-Rom Vol. 1 & 2.

The 2 first renders are really good... (espec. the first one), but I am not too fan of the last one... maybe the dof is too strong... no..?
Strong DOF...

Thanks guys,
you are right the third pic has a strong DOF for testing it, the first 2 pic are finals and the second one is the final tutorial pic.

For the second image, if you change diaphragm type from polygonal to circular you wont' get those dof smears on the flowers. Might be worth to mention that in your tutorial.

Thank you Tom,
Maxwell rendering is *GREAT* but are very important ASPECTS:
1)- The precision of 3D models. Bevels, inset, rounding, etc. are VERY VERY important details in all condition of lights and 3d program...
2)- The reality and beuty of bitmap textures used for the objects...

Those are some pretty nice renderings, well done!
And i agree that the 3rd pic looks like it was a shot of a tiny model as the dof settings are off the wall there by making it appear super tiny.

I love the Hammond keyboard, very cool, looks like it would sound great too.

Great renderings... I understand about the 3rd one and DOF - getting this just right takes little experimentation.
Thank you for mentioning my biggest pet peeve with models: edge bevel (chamfer). EVERY EDGE must have a chamfer (even a fillet needs a chamfer

). It's too bad people overlook this in their models, many renderings would look so much better without sharp edges.
It's understandable however; I have not seen a good tool for chamfering an edge in a poly modeler. I haven't seen them all, but from what I use (Solidworks, where a beautiful chamfer is a mouse click away), all these tools are awkward. I have started to do some modeling in Lightwave (yuck...) and just ignore edges.
Very much looking forward to the tutorial!
