All the wood and surroundings look great. The boot, what's up with that? What is the material on it?

Boot's material is 1 BSDF+1 SSS+1 Displacement(sculpted in modo).

Very nice ambiance. I think, another problem about the boot is its scale.

I think what lacks with the boot is variation. Just show some shiny red or something coming through on cleaner parts of the boot. The dirt on it looks awesome in my opinion.

An improvement, definately. But there is still a lack of texture quality on the boot.

Though your image is very close to the reference image, I find the reference image lacking something as well. I think if you show just a bit of cleaner portions coming through, some more intense color from under the dirt, that would help a focal point in the image.

Nice. I think your whole shot could use a bit more contrast - just to bring out the highlights a bit at least - but great job.
The boot looks fine to me.
