A lot of people were disappointed when Apple introduced their new 24” Cinema Display Tuesday 14/10/08.
But as Apple says, it is made specifically for the new MacBook’s so maybe we haven’t seen it all yet.

These spy photos showed up on the internet today, and could very likely be the new Apple Cinema Pro display.

Rumor is, that it’s a 32” OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diode) display! OLED has far superior picture quality over LCD, but so far there has been problems with the life span, as the blue tends to die out too fast.

Specs should be:

Contrast ratio: 8.000.000 : 1
Resolution: 3840 x 2160 UHD
Display colors: 1 billion
Response time: 0,2 ms
Viewing angle: 180 degree H&V
Brightness: 450 cd/m

So far the largest commercially introduced OLED is the Sony XEL-1, 11” OLED TV, which is setting new standards for stunningly beautiful video reproduction.

(In my dreams...)

Looks like a render not a photograph to me :)

Nice renders. I don't care for the fade-to-black background, but that's just me.

There's no way on earth Apple would design such a display. From a design point these attempts are amateurish at best. The renders are OK but there are so many non Apple design cues I've lost count.

Of course Apple would never do a design like this, they are always nice, boring, and boring... Don't get me wrong, I like Apple hardware but the only really challenging design they ever did, is what I’m writing this post on, MacBook Air. Because it is so thin, it is extreme, everything else from Apple, is made not to scare anyone away. Rectangular boxes with rounded edges, wow so fantastic.

The speaker on the screen gave me distribution in 18 countries in one year, and as no one had listened to it before they ordered, I guess they must have liked the design... But okay, I also used a bit more than one hour to do the speaker design.

Best regards

I really liked Obama’s speech...

Yes we can!

3 years ago I made a decision. I wanted to do something, not just talk or dream about it. I didn’t know if I could, but I guess we only live once, and what I would be most afraid of, would be to wake up one day, 80 years old and think; why didn’t I do it, why didn’t I have the guts to follow my dream, why did I choose to listen to all the critics saying; You can’t do it!

Everyone, people in the audio business, close friends and even family, all said, you can’t do it, it’s impossible. I said yes I can, deep down inside not knowing if I actually could.

Now 3 years later, I’m still here. If I’m here in one year or even tomorrow, I don’t know. Life’s a game, and if I drop dead tomorrow, I will die happy, course I followed my dream, and did things exactly as I wanted to. I invested everything, sold everything I owned, to start my own business.

So what does all this have to do with anything?

Well, a few of you guys seems to react like I would have done some years ago. Today I’m different, course I stopped criticizing everyone, and asked myself; can I really do better? It was about to go all wrong a hundred times, and I’ve had a lot of sleepless nights. But I proved all the critics wrong, I could do it! Something of me is now spread around the world, and will still be here when I’m gone.

When I say I think Apple design is boring, I truly mean it. It is made to please everyone, not to stick out and talk for itself. And I'm sure Apple is fully aware of this, they are not a single person, but a marketing machine, made to maximize sales. And they are quite good at that, my laptop, phone and desktop all have this little Apple printed on it. But I still think it is a bit boring, I would like them to be a bit more extreme. Not saying that I think the display I designed here is the best looking thing on earth, it was only made for fun, and to learn how to use multi light in Maxwell. I’ve only used Maxwell for a few weeks, and I think it is absolutely fantastic, better than my real photo studio, now I doesn’t even have to do prototypes to see the final result.

The B&O designer David Lewis said: I doesn’t really care if people like my design, I made it as I wanted it. The worst thing is, if people doesn’t have any opinion.

I agree…

The render's are better then ok - they're great! And what's amateurish about the design precisely? Surely this is a matter of subjectivity (like alot of design)! to me they speak of 'cooling' and 'ventilation' and the form is much more engaging then current designs - which ironically look amateurish in comparison. or is something else entirely making you tense angry boy?

Can they move up and down?

If not, they are pants ;)

I quite like the renders, but generally am getting tired of 'that' style of Mac look.

I want to see something really new again, they have been too safe recently :D
