New Pieces

A couple new pieces. The first was a quickie to play with the emitter shader (plus a way to make the
mandatory "logo render"

This other started out simply to test out the motion blur, but ended up as a "how much can I throw into this scene without crashing the system" test. The origional image was rendered at 2200x1100 for 10 hours (forgot to check what sampling level was reached). Voxilization took 15 minutes (because of the motion blur of the motorcycle and leaves), and the mxcl.exe process hovered just under 1.5 GB. Four Poser figures, two vehicles, two complete building models, a dozen bookshelfs, and a hundered-so leaves (individually animated for blur).
I'm not too happy with her hair (of course

), and I think I'm going to change the color of the motorcycle to a deep blue - in order to focus more attention on the girl. I'm also going to put some hair on the guy in the book store.

...but the biker will be in an accident after 5 secs.

He He! In my origional version, I had the biker heading directly into the parked car. I was going to put another person on the sidewalk with a startled expression looking and gestering at the biker. I may still go that route.
I was also thinking of doing a much windier shot with the girl holding down her skirt (Marilyn Monroe style), giving more creedence to the stareing of the other figures.

Very much impressive work!

but i'm curious about exactly how many polygons there are in this scene.. it looks massive to say the least.

I forgot to check the final poly count this morning. I'll get it when I go home tonite and post it in the morning.
I could have trimed a lot off of the buildings as only a small percentage is actually included in the scene. I probably will eventually chop quite a bit off, as I'd like to add a lot more leaves and maybe an additional poser figure. I'm thinking I'm near the poly limit that would crash the render. I just have a billboard image of a house on the oposite side of the street to give the shiny parts of the scene something to reflect besides just sky. I'm also still experimenting using the plastic shader for the skin to get some specular effects, but I still haven't hit on an optimal setting.

Tell me the settings you used for the motion blur and what version did you use ? I just can“t make the effects right

Well, the poly count was a lot lower that I had expected: a tad over one million. I guess it was the motion blur that was eating up the memory in the mxcl process. 3dMax only got up to around 700 MB during the initial rendering stage.
As for the motion blur, I really didn't do anything special, and used all of the defaults. I just set a couple of key frames, set the render to a frame in the middle, and did some tests. To get a greater blur, I moved the second keyframe closer to the first until I got something I liked. Nothing more than trial and error I'm afraid.
I just got my copy of Windows XP 64 today and the rest of my parts, so now I can start building my new dual opteron system, and cram as much ram as possible into it. THEN we'll see how much this baby can really handle!!!
