Hi Rich,
It's a nice start...maybe a little too nice.
...some very subtle scratches or irregularities in the metal surface will help.

Great start and quite an interesting ring. I think the second image could use some more contrast (simply in post).
@JDHill, what the hell is that on Bowie's forehead? Looks like a hole

the ring looks interesting even without the jewels (assuming they're missing), that's probably a good sign for the overall design.
but uhm... get ready for your rendering times to increase a little bit if you put in diamonds using the .ior diamond material. [heavy heavy sarcasm]

Have the drilled holes got bevelled edges?
I can't see any small specular rings on the edges which I think makes it loose some of it's realism!?
Nice so far though, very interesting design
