Hi my name is Paul Wilkinson. Welcome to my gallery. I have been quiet over the past month and a bit due to full time work but I have found the time to create some work and a gallery here for you to see. I sure hope you like my work. Enjoy!

UPDATE - 14/05/05

Hello again people. Boy have I been busy with Maxwell. Here is a character that i am animating for my company reel. His name is Deej and he is having a tantrum over who gets front seat of the spaceship...well not quite but you all get the idea!

Rendered with maxwell and a little post work to acheive SSS in his skin. Displacements were done in Zbrush but there was no slot for them so just bump used although is not nearly enough to show up. Anyways, I hear displacements will be coming soon!!

Eyes were similar to the eyes in my tutorial except with some of the changes that were requested made. Porcelain for his teeth, plastic for skin, gums and tounge. No tounge texture as yet.
And finally color correction and a 2D bloom effect in Adobe After Effects.

Enjoy!

Here is the playblast preview of the animation. It's not quite there yet, but not far off now. Animation is small, only 620k (4k per frame).

Note: Animation will cache before play. You also may need to allow the page.

Cheeers! :P

Although new to the software, I have managed to grasp the concept pretty quickly and found the time to redesign one of my earliest of projects using Maxwell.

The render below differs from the original design (bottom) but I feel it expresses a sense of livelyhood that was previously abscent. It seems to appear more sanitised and gives off an unsettled earthly edge to its design.

The result: (9 Hours - 17 of 25 samples reached)

The original design: (paper sketch - traced in flash - photoshoped)

This version of the location holds a dramatic marsian mood; a rich ambience expressing the hot colors of the warming environment. The sun is setting outside and there are domed cities on the horizon.

I will revisit this original design using Maxwell when I gain a better understanding of the renderer's material functionality and irradiance systems.

Beers!

Very nice :)
I like the colors and overall mood.

Did you achieve the soft focus effect in post, or is it Maxwell fog ?

Smooth
Hour was 5.8
Water was 2.0
Turbidity was 3.0
Ozone was 0.35
City was Sydney (where i live)
i want to go there and taste that mood :)
Id be glad to join you smooth :) - I loooove those crows.

Thomas:
No. Infact the slight blurriness was due to the incredibally dark render that came out of maxwell. I presume that the dark nature of the render was the reason behind the lack of focus in this case. Adjusting the curves on the render did infact alter the color and mood as oposed to the render alone, had I turned up more light before I let it output.

In any case the next stage will be to model the outside entirely and have that reddish mood that I planned from the beginning.

In addition to that I will be adding intricate detail to the scene as I go and will post better results shortly.

Also, I will be adding a character to my gallery in the near future so heads up.

Okie Dokey... Back to Placidence!
Wish me luck.

aah, I see. Thanks.

You could play some more with the camera setting to bring more light. Also the tonesmapping setting might help too.

Keep us updated :D
Great work.

No these arnet total textures. They are all from my archive of assorted textures such as deserts and badlands and stonework. Other textures were photo's I took and/or photoshopped.

Appreciate yer comments. I will have an animated character in another environment for you next time. Soon. Soon.

Well thankyou Nico! Beleive it or not hes not really saying anything. Although I think it sounds like he is saying "Fly over here".

Im going to redo the animation with a better recording. Cheers!

ET's evil twin :)

The expressions are pretty good, the mouth looks a little stiff, but you should try and brake the flow of the animation a little bit. I mean for it to have different speeds. Right now it sort of flows at the same rate and makes it look mechanical because of that. Just add a bit more acceleration/deceleration.

Thanks for the tithere Mihai. GOod point. I will add some variance in speed and expression rate, and loosen his lips a bit.

Cheers.
