Hi all, I just started learning Solidworks and since one of our members (Thomas Parel) over at productdesignforums.com made an excellent tutorial I thought it would be nice to render the result in Maxwell 1.1.
The environment is the default cm one, I just rotated the lights a bit. Materials were done with the material wizard, so overall setup time was about 10 minutes.
Let it render for an hour and this is the result (downsized from 1024x768, just a bit of post in photoshop). It could be less noisy but this was just a test for me, not much more.

Here's another render of the same model in Maxwell Render 1.1.
This time I made my own scene and emitters, and slightly changed the rubber material to make it a bit more reflective. Rendertime, about 1.5 hours (resized from 1024x768), slight glare effects added in Maxwell.

Well, I'm sorry to be the first one to say it... but that is one ugly looking mouse! (The design)

Anyway, the last render looks very nice... I like how the black/darkgrey plastic material.. it came out good. The studio light setup is very nice too

Ok, here's the last one of this model. I didn't design it btw, it was designed as a practise object for a solidworks tutorial, the link to which is in my first post of this thread.

Well, I haven't been able to play much with SW since this tutorial, but what I saw from SW made me think that basic organic shapes are possible with SW, but if you want something more elaborate it's still easier to achieve such a result in Rhino. What might be the best middle ground though is to create a base organic shape in Rhino, make a solid from it and export to IGES. SW will understand this perfectly and you can do stuff like shelling, supports and fillets from there in SW.

Thanks for the nice words everyone, I still have a long way to go in Maxwell, I wish I could play with it more often these days (interning at the moment).
